The Ministry of Education was a shock – there was no one at work. Floor after floor was almost deserted. “Where is the clerk who deals with Bulawayo?” I asked. “She is at the bank” was the reply. Today I went back to find the office deserted except for a solitary employee who told me they had not seen the clerk for several days – did not know when she would be back at work, “try the pensions department” she said.

NOTING the resolution of the African Union of the 30th of June 2008, taken in Sharm El-Scheikh, Egypt, on the resolution of the Zimbabwean crisis, dialogue commenced between Zanu PF and the MDC culminating in the MOU on the 21st of July 2008, and the Global Political Agreement (GPA) on the 11th of September 2008 with the signing ceremony on the 15th of September 2008.

What next?

As you all know the SADC summit took place on Sunday, 5 heads of State attended with officials and Ministers representing those that could not attend. They deliberated for 12 hours and then issued a communiqué that basically endorsed the position adopted by Mr. Mbeki and then the SADC Troika. The most significant part of the whole exercise was that all 14 States supported the decisions reached, there were no disputing views.

MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai has said that the opposition is "totally" against the SADC proposal.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa
-- Zimbabwe powersharing talks were left deadlocked Monday after Morgan Tsvangirai, leader of the opposition MDC party, rejected plans to co-manage the ministry that oversees police.
